This is a major week for TVaholics TV Fans like me. Each TV network unveils its upcoming season for the advertisers in a series of daily “upfronts”. Each day this week, one of the networks shows off the new lineups they have with the hopes that the advertisers will be excited and buy more ad time on their network. A byproduct of this is that screeners of the new shows make their way to the internet for pathetic zhlubs interested parties like myself to download and watch.

So far I have seen only one (which was also on FOX last night), but I was really impressed that I want to share. The show is called Glee and it is about a glee club in an Ohio high school. I know, it sounded stupid to me as well especially after I read the official FOX description:

Will Schuester, an optimistic high school teacher, tries to reinvent the McKinley High School’s glee club, while reinventing himself. He challenge a group of outcasts to realize their true star potential, while facing harsh criticism from everyone in the school.

So yeah, it sounds really sappy, and to an extent it is, however, they have taken a sappy idea and brought a bit of freshness to it. First off, the show is a musical comedy/drama. The drama is clearly of the feelgood afterschool special kind, but the comedy is somewhat quirky (reminds me a bit of Picket Fences) and the music is what really got me. It seems to me that the musical choices are going to be coming from the late 70s through the 80s. This is based only on the pilot and a lot of reworking is possible, but I am hoping that they keep this 70s – 80s focus on the songs.

Here is a the pilot from hulu.com.   The song is Don’t Stop Believing by Journey.  To get to the song, just choose to watch the video with commercials (the 2nd choice) and then when the video starts playing, click to move to 39:30 in the video.

Enjoy!

I think its well known that I love TV and watch way too much.  This past season there were some great new shows, but I think my favorite of the new shows (and thank God it was renewed!) is “Pushing Daisies“.  This quirky show has just the right blend of drama, comedy and fantasy.  It is wonderfully written and they use the actor’s talents to the fullest.

One of the shows starts is Kristin Chenoweth, who is one of the best Broadway stars in the business today.  She has a wonderful voice and the writers have taken advantage of this.  There have been many TV shows to use music and song in their story, but Pushing Daisies take a slightly different approach where the songs tend to be coming from the thoughts of the characters.

Today you get two wonderful songs from this amazing show.  The first is “Hopelessly Devoted to You” sung by Kristin Chenoweth and the second is sung by Ellen Green, herself a major Broadway talent.  In the first, see if you can find the “ooops” that they made with the set!

Enjoy!

I’ll admit it. I’m hooked! We love Dancing with the Stars. I did not watch the first few seasons, and last year we tuned in at the end of the season, but this year mkm and I are totally hooked.

Last night was a lot of fun, and I will make the prediction here and now (lets all see if I am right). Kristi Yamaguchi is going to win this season. She may have an edge over the rest because skating (a major favorite of mkm) has taught her how to move and how to use her body in a similar way. It is possible that someone else can win, but I am picking her now. I think Marlee Matlin and Priscilla Presley will also be in the competition for a while too. On the mens side I think the last three men standing will be Mario, Steve Guttenberg and Jason Taylor.

As for those to leave soon, I the first two guys to go will be Penn Gillette and Adam Carolla and the first two women Monica Seles and Shannon Elizabeth. The only reason Shannon might stay longer is because she will get popular votes because she is so beautiful.

Tune in tonight to see if I am right!
